Antonio Albacete began racing in go-karts becoming Spain´s vice champion at the early age of 15.
Soon he moved up to Formulas where he won the 1982 Fórmula Fiesta for the first time, winning again in 1986 (the class is now re-named as Formula Ford).
Few years later Antonio started to compete abroad. In 1989, he raced in England where he achieved the 6th position in British Formula 3000.
In 1990 Antonio became Formula Renault Spanish Champion and in the same year he also won the Class II of the Spanish Touring car Championship (CET) .
In 1991 Antonio became FIAT factory driver CET in Class II, also managing to finishing the championship as Vice- Champion.
In 1993 Antonio became BMW driver and with BMW M3 he secured the second absolute final position in the Spanish Championship.
In 1994 Antonio became the official works driver for Opel, only to return to BMW in 1995. The same year he became the driver with the most outright wins in the Championship.
In 1996 Antonio was runner-up in the Supercopa Citroën ZX alternating his participation in the CET at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo.
After the CET was canceled, in 1997 Antonio received CEPSA's proposal to pilot the works MAN in the European Championship.
In 2005 Antonio became European Champion. He revalidated his title two more times, in 2006 and again, in 2010.
Antonio combines his work as truck racing driver in European Championship with touring car races within the CER and he also participates in Classic Rally at the wheel of a 1973 Mini Cooper. He is also the test driver for the development of Subaru BRZ within Spanish Federation.
In 2017 Albacete return to the FIA ETRC after a year on the sidelines. Finding his feet again took some time, but the Spaniard gradually improved, took a popular win at the Slovakia Ring, later adding two more victories at Jarama on his way to fifth in the final standings.
