FIRST POZNAŃ POLE GOES TO KISS

The first pole position at TOR Poznań has gone to Championship leader Norbert Kiss. He set the pace in qualifying and super pole, taking the front spot on the grid by four-tenths of a second.

The session was much closer than other qualifying sessions we’ve seen this year, with Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz pushing the Hungarian to keep improving as the session continued. The trio were split by just two-tenths of a second when the chequered flag fell on the 20-minute qualifying session, chasing down Kiss’ 1:56.887.

Although the order of the top three didn’t change between qualifying and super pole, Hahn and Lenz kept Kiss honest, with the trio split by half a second at the end of the session. Kiss claimed pole with a 1:56.639, only improving on his qualifying time by two-tenths. The conditions may have impacted track evolution, but it seems a very small margin to improve between qualifying and super pole. This will be something the drivers keep in mind for tomorrow’s qualifying session.

One of the few to improve from their qualifying position was Antonio Albacete, who jumped up the order to take fourth from Jamie Anderson. The duo seem to be finding each other a lot on track this season, along with Steffi Halm, who starts the first race of the weekend sixth, so this will be an interesting battle to keep an eye on as the grid speeds into Turn 1.

José Eduardo Rodrigues claimed yet another Promoter’s Cup pole on track, starting seventh overall, but over speeding on the lap saw the Portuguese’s driver’s time deleted. This means he has fallen to tenth overall, giving Promoter’s Cup pole to race-by-race entry Lukas Hahn. The two Promoter’s Cup drivers were split by André Kursim, who will now start seventh overall ahead of the Promoter’s Cup field. Luis Recuenco rounded off the Super Pole entries and now takes ninth overall, ahead of the demoted Rodrigues, second in Promoter’s Cup.

Mark Taylor was just six-tenths shy of making his first super pole appearance, leading Promoter’s Cup title contender Steffen Faas across the line for 11th and 12th respectively. A returning Clemens Hecker was 13th ahead of John Newel and race-by-race entry Johnathan André who completed the 15 strong grid.

The Goodyear FIA ETRC’s first race in Poznań gets underway at 12:45 CEST.
